Becoming a startup entrepreneur is a huge undertaking. The landscape is constantly changing, and you must be ready to wear all of the hats. With that in mind, start-up entrepreneurs do have one invaluable tool to rely on in the ever-changing environment: a great website. Here are 10 Startup Website Tips For Entrepreneurs.

Websites are often the first impression for potential costumers, so without a fantastic website it does not matter how great your product or service is.

To help you out, here is a list of 10 website tips every startup entrepreneur needs to know.

1. Usability, for all devices

In the past, people mostly used personal computers to look up information on websites. That has been changing over the last few years, and now people are just as likely to look something up on a mobile device. With that in mind, make sure you build your website on a platform such as WordPress that is compatible with both computers and mobile devices.

2. Use errors to your advantage

The “404 error page” is unavoidable every once in a while, so get creative! Create an error page that works with the message, aesthetic, and tone of your website. That way, users can still get a strong sense of who you are as a company, are less likely to get frustrated, and more likely to return.

3. Show off your credibility

The power is in the people. In the internet age, it is all about reviews and endorsements. Showcase your positive reviews, and use endorsements when possible. Include some information about reviewers and endorsers to eliminate any sense of inauthenticity.

4. Be clear about who you are and what your product or service is

Do not make people work for information. Produce an explainer video to help users easily wrap their heads around a new product or service, and include a clear and detailed bio page for the core members of your team.

5. Present a clear call-to-action

Every page on your website must have a clear objective: what do you want users to do on this page? Make sure that the links stand out and the descriptive language is clear.

6. Write concise copy

Your start-up website is not the place for poetry. Be clear and concise in your word choices so that it is not a distraction to users.

7. Use a simple design

By the same token, do not underestimate the power of visual simplicity. You want your product to stand out, not your website. A sleek and simple design is the best way to bring your product to the foreground; do not overload users with visual stimuli.

8. Social media links

Social media is the way new information spreads, so make sure your social media links are easy to find. Many websites still have them on the “contact us” page, but it is best to have those links on the home page.

9. Consider the search engines

Put yourself in the user’s position: how might her or she come across your website through a Google search? Make sure those words show up throughout your website. You will get a lot more visitors by being search engine friendly.

10. Test your load time

In case you need yet another reason to keep your website simple: nothing frustrates users more than a slow loading time. Especially with so many people on mobile devices, not everyone will be working with ideal internet connection. Clean up your HTML code, and remove unnecessary tags and comments.
